Due to the conflict between Russian and Ukrainian naval ships in the Kerch Strait in November 2018, the EU plans further sanctions against Russia. According to EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, this concerns eight Russian individuals. There are now 164 persons and 44 companies on sanction lists of the European Union in connection with the Ukraine conflict.
In addition to the EU, many other states have imposed sanctions on Russia since the beginning of the conflict. Many are well aware of the sanction lists of the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC). The circumvention of sanctions deliberately or through negligence can result in enormous penalties.
Because of this reason SIGNUM Consulting offers sanctions lists screenings which help you to determine whether a business partner is included in a sanctions list. Contact us to learn more about our service!
We are pleased that SIGNUM Consulting has been accepted as a member of the "National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS)". Founded in 2003 as a non-profit trade association, NAPBS was established to represent the interest of companies offering employment brackground screening services. Through membership, SIGNUM Consulting once again demonstrates its high level of international ethics and performance standard, thereby intensifying its collaboration with US customers and partners.
A successful integration of the Pre-Employment Screening Process into the recruiting process requires transparent communication with the applicants. It is neccessary to prepare the applicants for the Pre-Employment Screening process, in order to avoid misunderstandings and to support the process. SIGNUM Consulting recommends to draw attention to PES as follows:
Digitization has made the recruiting process easier and more comfortable. At the same time, a security gap has arisen: Certified copies or original documents are rarely submitted to personnel department during online application process. In addition, digital files are much easier to forge than paper documents. For these reasons, Pre-Employment Screening (PES) as an effective testing tool for recruiting applicants is an important issue for more than half of German companies. In consultation with the applicant and with his / her consent, former employers and educational institutions may be contacted to check information in CVs for authenticity. With a professional PES, high transparency towards the applicant and strict compliance with legal requirements according to DSGVO are the top priority. Do you want to protect your company and verify applicant data quickly and easily? SIGNUM Consulting is your reliable partner for PES. Start now and contact us!
In the following interview, our data protection lawyer Christian Regnery answered your questions related to the declaration of consent with regard to the new DSGVO:
We are pleased to inform you about our new membership at the German Institute for Compliance e.V. (DICO).
This will provide new opportunities for networking, for the exchange of experience with experts, as well as for the marketing of our Compliance tool, which our client Deutsche Lufthansa is already successfully using.
With regard to the new European data protection legislation (GDPR), which becomes effective on May 25th, 2018, we would like to answer the most commonly arising questions.
Is the verification of applicant details (Pre-Employment Screening) by SIGNUM Consulting realizable in consideration of the new GDPR?
Yes, the process of our reference checks already fulfills the requirements of the EU-GDPR. We have more than 20 years of experience in processing personal data within recruitment in accordance with the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). Without a justified interest and the applicant's signed declaration of consent, which allows to pass on his data to us, PES compliant with data protection regulations would not be possible.
What changes with the new GDPR for PES?
Our procedure will not change. Before and after the 25th of May, personal data may only be processed and stored if it is necessary for establishing the employment and the applicant's consent is given voluntarily. The new legal basis in Germany is § 26 BDSG. The GDPR includes the applicants consent (article 7) as well as the balancing of interests (article 6). In the future, the EU GDPR takes precedence over applicable national laws. This means that every company which is active in the European market must abide by the new law – irrespective in which European country the headquarter is based.
How does data protection compliant work of your PES analysts in practice?
The reference requests are processed by sending the respective personal documents to the issuing persons and institutions. However, these are only used for verification purposes and are completely deleted after processing. The verification process is supported by SIGNUM Consulting's own software, which guarantees an encrypted data transfer and a standardized, transparent process flow.
How do you ensure that your company operates in accordance to the GDPR?
Our quality promise includes the processing of applicant data in strict compliance with data protection regulations. In addition to our qualified PES analysts, who are regularly trained in data protection and information security, we are in demand at information events and customer workshops on the new regulations and changes. In addition, SIGNUM Consulting is regularly audited by our data protection officers and is certified according to ISO 9001:2015.
We would be happy to send you a whitepaper on the classification of the PES procedure within the GDPR framework. For further information, please contact Karin Giangrande.
